Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh Stadt Ltd. owned by a Hong Kong based German investor who will develop the project “German House” at number 3-5 Lê Văn Hưu, District 1, with an investment capital of 38,9 million US dollars.

Located at the crossroads of Lê Duẩn Boulevard and Lê Văn Hưu Street in this part of the city center, the plot of land is worth its weight in gold. In the past years the “precious” premises have only been used for short periods and different purposes, and in the last four years the plot has remained vacant after a commercial estate had been closed.

The property at the crossroads of Lê Duẩn Boulevard and Lê Văn Hưu Street, sized 3511,5 square meters, has been transferred to the German Embassy on 8th November 2011 in form of a 99-year lease agreement officially starting on 7th October 2011 and priced at 1 Vietnam-Dong.

The project resulted from an agreement between the governments of Vietnam and Germany. The agreement between both countries is based on an effort to develop intensified relationships in terms of a strategic partnership, especially in the field of politics, foreign trade, economy and culture.

Deutsches Haus will not only be home to the Consulate General of Germany, but it will also be a focal point for all German enterprises, economic associations and cultural and educational institutions from Germany to get established with their activities on the Vietnamese market.

Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City is a project which is believed by German business associations in Vietnam to increase the amount of investment capital from Germany into Vietnam, and foster cultural exchange between both nations.

According to the Office for Foreign Investment, during the first five months of the year, there were 10 investment projects of German enterprises to Vietnam, with a total capital of 80 million US-Dollars. To the present day, there is a total of 227 German investment project into Vietnam, with an investment capital sum of 1,246 billion US-Dollar, ranking Germany on position 22 of all 101 nations and regions investing into Vietnam.

On the occasion of the visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Vietnam in October 2011, an intergovernmental agreement on the Deutsches Haus project in the center of Ho Chi Minh City has been closed between both countries.

Later in Berlin on 13th March 2013 the “intergovernmental agreement about the design, construction and operation of the Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City” was signed by state secretary at the German Federal Foreign Office, Cornelia Pieper, and Vietnamese Ambassador in Germany, Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh.

According to the websites of the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the signing of the governmental agreement on the Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City” was commented by German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle: “the signing of the intergovernmental agreement on Deutsches Haus is an important milestone in our relationship with Vietnam. We have now made an important step with the purpose of building Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City, a pioneering seminal project with regards to the relationship and the cooperation between us and Vietnam.”

“With Deutsches Haus we promote Germany as culturally attractive, economically sound and technologically advanced business environment within Europe. At the same time we create an important brand that emphasizes the efforts of Germany and Europe to grow Southeast Asian markets.
