Strengthening Germany-Vietnam Partnership – Visit of Mayor Burkhard Jung and the Leipzig Delegation

On 4th October 2025, Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City had the honor of hosting the celebrations for the German Unity Day and Deutschlandfest 2025, jointly organized by the German Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City and AHK Vietnam, marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between Germany and Vietnam.

As part of the event, Mayor Burkhard Jung and the delegation from the City of Leipzig visited Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City, reaffirming the enduring partnership between Leipzig and Ho Chi Minh City.

The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Horst Geicke (Chairman), Mr. Dirk Simmons (Council Member), and Mr. Elmar Dutt (General Director), and Consul General Ms. Andrea Sühl, together with representatives of AHK Vietnam. During the visit, the guests were introduced to the building’s sustainable and green architectural design and gained insights into its role as a symbol of German presence and cooperation in Vietnam.

The Leipzig City Delegation’s visit to Vietnam, taking place from 29 September to 6 October 2025, aimed to further strengthen collaboration in economic development, education and training, healthcare, and culture.

Key objectives of the visit included:

  • Economic and Business Exchange: Meetings with AHK Vietnam, ITPC, and local enterprises to explore opportunities in investment, innovation, and digital transformation.
  • Education and Training Collaboration: Strengthening academic partnerships and promoting German-style dual vocational training through visits to universities and vocational training institutions.
  • Medical Cooperation: Hosting a medical symposium and gala at Military Hospital 175 to foster healthcare collaboration.
  • Cultural and Public Diplomacy: Representing Leipzig as Ho Chi Minh City’s twin city at Deutschlandfest 2025 and promoting Leipzig’s creative, technological, and cultural identity.

The visit of the Leipzig delegation was one of the highlights of Deutschlandfest 2025, symbolizing not only the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations but also their shared commitment to a prosperous and sustainable future of Germany-Vietnam partnership.
