Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City welcomed the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his high-ranking delegation on his visit to Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

President Steinmeier's return to Vietnam resonates with the sentiments expressed during his prior visit to Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City on November 1st, 2016 in his previous capacity as Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, where he praised the project as a beacon of the enduring and steadfast Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership during its topping-out ceremony.

During his visit to Deutsches Haus, President Steinmeier was warmly welcomed by the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Mr. Phan van Mai and the investors of Deutsches Haus Horst Geicke and Horst Pudwill. 

After a fruitful exchange with the People’s Chairman Mr. Phan Van Mai, President Steinmeier engaged with his accompanying business delegation in a business roundtable with the German Business Association (GBA) and the Delegation of German Business and Industry in Vietnam (AHK).

“Our businesses in Vietnam are an integral part of the supply chain and global work-bench of German companies in Germany and around the world and we secure with our business in Vietnam also workplaces of German companies in Germany and around the world. It is therefore a pivotal moment for Germany to strengthen and boost the strategic partnership, especially economically and for German business to take advantage of the benefits of this close cooperation and the established  European Free Trade Agreement, to invest in Vietnam” Mr. Elmar Dutt – Chairman of the German Business Association (GBA) stated 

President Steinmeier and his delegation have been very impressed by the active and engaged entrepreneurship of Vietnamese and German business leaders and companies and the economic perspectives Vietnam offers for investment and trade for German business.

President Steinmeier stated “We are creating something special here on this very prestigious ground. I am very pleased that the plan for the Deutsches Haus took shape soon after, that I did not miss the chance to be here for the Topping Out ceremony and visit this impressive building upon its completion. I have heard that Deutsches Haus has won several Awards for energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. Its positive reception makes the building a symbol and ambassador for German business here in Vietnam. It is more than 40,000 square meters of spaces justify to the strong presence of German businesses in the country. Mr. Geicke and Mr. Pudwill, I would like to congratulate you on this truly impressive project which was also made possible by your investment and by your successful management. What a great at the end! What a great showcase for the German economy right here in Vietnam’s largest city and business center.”

President Steinmeier embarked on a comprehensive tour of Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City. He could see firsthand that Deutsches Haus has evolved not only into a successful symbol of bilateral cooperation, but seamlessly integrating architectural finesse with state-of-the-art German sustainable green technologies and facilities.

President Steinmeier underscored the Deutsches Haus Ho Chi Minh City’s significance as a convergence point for German and Vietnamese enterprises and as an essential platform for businesses to cultivate partnerships.  

The visit of Federal President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier at Deutsches Haus served as a testament to the enduring relationship between Germany and Vietnam, further enhancing ties and paving the way for deeper cooperation across various domains.
